Searching for Sonker and/or 'Genuine' Brunswick Stew

estufarian | Aug 4, 2011 01:43 PM

On my recent query (Triangle) a response asked what I was looking for – here are a couple of requests! My routing is scheduled to be (roughly) Charlotte – Triangle - Winston-Salem – Charlotte, but references elsewhere may help any other future searchers.

Is there anywhere that I might find ‘genuine’ Brunswick Stew (i.e squirrel, not chicken). Is this even legal currently?

I’ve never tried a Sonker (only found multiple references on how to bake one). I know of the festival in Mt Airy – except nothing in Mt Airy (that I’ve found) offers Sonkers at other times of the year. I’d settle for any version, but the prize would be a sweet potato Sonker.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.
