My search is over! Wonderful Persian at Cafe Rose

I can't believe I passed this place by so many times! Probably because of its dreary location at the old Stratford Motor Lodge in Falls Church City on W. Broad St. But open the door and - voila- everything inside is fresh and handsome. We started off with roasted garlic in a pungent sauce (think sauerbraten)and also the grape leaves which featured a unique and tasty stuffing which was slightly fruity/nutty. One main course wase a five bean dish, the beans were carefully minced and retained perfect texture and wonderfully perfumed with spices, on top sat a few cubes of long-simmered beef and a velvety 'log' of roasted eggplant and some crispy potato sticks. The other main was kebab, one steak and one ground beef. They weren't charred as most places do -and is often delicious- but the steak was 1/4 inch slice, very tender, barely coated with a slightly tangy yellow sauce. The ground beef was tasty and ok.
I knew about Cafe Rose for a long time, but it was Naruda who clued me in that they are a good choice for non-kebab Persian items. And this place does not dumb down their food; some of it really packs a wallop. They did not offer me a raw egg for my rice, and I didn't ask for one, but maybe the next time. I can't wait to go back.
