Schwa rudeness

My husband and I had to drive to the suburbs last night so we figured we'd get an early dinner at Schwa on the way out. We arrived promptly at 5:30 when they opened. The dining room was empty and there was no sign of anyone coming. We asked if it would be possible to get a table. The hostess haughtily said she wasn't so sure and after leaving to debate the matter with others she came back and said they were far too busy and cooly stated that perhaps we should try again some other time.

I understand it's not always possible to eat somewhere if you don't have reservations. I think what surprised me was that most restaurants leave some tables for walk-ins as well as the arrogant attitude we received. If she would have been nice enough to offer to make reservations for us the following weekend or soon thereafter we would not have left with such a bad impression of them.
