Thanks to those who responded to my message a few threads down about a place on New Years before the Massey show.
My wife called around to a few places and we finally settled on the Savoy, placing a reso on Friday night but only after they assured us that it would be regular menu up until 8pm. Great as none of us wanted a full 3 course meal before the show and the regular menu sounded really good. We placed a reso for 6:15pm on Saturday.
At 5:10pm on Saturday we got a call from the Savoy telling us that it would be the fixed price menu for $55.00 or nothing. When my wife reminded them that they told us it was regular menu, they responded by saying, 'Oh, yeah' - no apology, no saying we screwed up, we're sorry. $55.00 was more than the most expensive app and the most expensive mains and a dessert - even all of that equals only about $45-50 bucks, where does the extra $5-10 bucks go?
So with only an hour before our reservation on New Years Eve no less, I called them back, got their voice mail and blasted them out for such terrible service.
You don't do this to your guests, especially ones who eat out as much and as often as we do. You don't accept a reso and then call an hour before the reso, changing the menu without some sort of apology or without some sort of caring.
Sorry, Savoy - you have lost some potentially very good, regular guests. You're loss, not mine.
