Had dinner at chestnut on Smith Street in Carroll Gardens on Saturday night @ 9ish after imbibing a zombie at the hut.
Had a round table in the back right corner. Comfortable seats, clean, warm ambiance.
The 5 of us ordered all 4 toasts as an appetizer:
-Liver Pate with apple slices
-Chick Peas and a sort of tomato salsa/topping
-Ricotta and carmelized onions
All were delicious with each guest having a favorite. The Liver Pate was a standout for me. 2 pieces each with generous helpings, at $4 these are a bargain.
I had an open faced seared Tuna sandwich with a pile of fries that were freshcut and very nice, could have used some vinegar with them but went the ketchup route instead. Tuna was delicious with an anchovy paste concealed beneath the generous tuna portion. My GF's winter kale soup was hearty with the kale flavor very strong, not exactly my cup of tea but she seemed to enjoy it. A friend's pork chops on polenta looked fantastic. I did not taste but these were no hockey pucks.
Total with a couple of cosmos and beers came to $110. Eminently reasonable. Service was attentive and friendly, bathrooms are spanking new & nice.
I will be back.
