I am forever Chowhounding great lunch spots all over Long Island. Although not everything on every menu is a hit, some places get a few things right. The specials *today*, for example, at Roast Sandwich Shop in Melville include a country fried steak sandwich. I have attached a photo of the specials for today.
The "brioche bun" I've tried on other sandwiches of theirs, is the run-of-the-mill crap "brioche" found in any generic joint, but the sandwich otherwise is a reason to stop by and try.
Old school house made hot hero sandwiches and the like at *My Hero* in North Bellmore is really good (actually Great), but not as intriguing.
Cook's Scratch Kitchen & Bakery in Northport is very good and very out of the way. But worth it for their bacon, scallion, cheese scones.
Are there any other places around that make deliciousness a part of their menu? Inventive and tasty. This ain't Queens or Williamsburg, we know.
A cold cut sandwich is fine, but a hot, *made to order* sandwich is Great!
Thanks Chowhounds! Happy Chowhounding!
