Last weekend, my mission to sample every sandwich at Bahn Mi Che Cali got sidetracked (the meeting which usually takes my past there around lunchtime got cancelled). But this week, I'm back on track, and sampled the BBQ Pork sandwich.
The pork was, as I suspected, rather like Cantonese BBQ pork (cha siu), which I don't particularly care for, since I seriously OD-ed on it as a kid. (My mom, who wasn't much of a cook, put cha siu in EVERYTHING instead of cooking her own meat.) But this stuff was redeemed by the fact that it was actually barbequed or grilled (it was warm and had little toasty carbonized bits on it--carbonized in a good way, of course). It was also much redder than its Chinese counterpart, and surprisingly, less sweet (also a good thing).
Not my favorite, but tasty in its own way.
