We were in SLO for a few days this week. First night we went to Big Sky Cafe on Broad Street. This is a funky little place with a very ecletic menu and many vegetarian selections. We started with a house salad and lentil soup. My husband had the jambalaya with skewers of chicken, shrimp and andouille sausage and I had the chicken sausage with polenta. The sausage plate came with two large sausages - one with sun dried tomatoes and the other with cherries. I couldn't decide which was best. I highly recommend this place.
Next night we went to the Basque restaurant Fandango on Higuera. It was awful! Too noisy, no atmosphere, poor service and food that was barely edible. 'Nuff said.
Our last night we ate at Novo on Higuera. After splitting an excellent salad of mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette, we ordered four of the small plates: Spring rolls, Moroccan lamb satay with mint and yogurt sauces, clams & mussels in a garlic tomato broth and pork stuffed with spinach, red peppers and havarti cheese. We couldn't decide which was best. We ended splitting some kind of pistachio pastry that was out of this world. If you go, be sure to ask to be seated on the patio - it is really beautiful.
