Are there any particularly good places to get a sausage and pepper sandwich at the San Genaro feast?
I was there last Thursday (Sep 16) and I had one from a Hispanic vendor (maybe my first mistake) about a block south of the north end on the west side of the street. (I should have noted the exact street but didn't think about it at the time)
The bread was soft and bland. The sausage was almost tasteless and had a texture something like slightly dampened cardboard. The onions were OK and the red peppers sprinkled throughout were OK if you like the sweet ones. ( I prefer the green peppers that are not literally sweet. )
The main thing was the meat was awful. A half decent prepackaged supermarket sausage would put it to shame.
