I tried asking this a different way below and got no responses, so... :)
I was reading a message thread on this board and someone asked if Cafe Chloe was the "quintessential San Diego restaurant," to which the response was that it probably wasn't and that perhaps a taqueria could make that claim.
Well, I'm visiting San Diego over the Memorial Day weekend (actually, Saturday through Wednesday), and I'm wondering: what *is* the quintessential San Diego restaurant, in your estimation? For vacationeering purposes, I'm most interested in table service restaurants, but I'm curious about the whole range. I'll be on vacation with my mother, who prefers to eat vegetarian but will do seafood and poultry. I'm pretty omnivorous, myself.
I've made tentative Saturday night reservations at Arterra, but haven't confirmed anywhere else. I'm also curious about Tijuana recommendations if anyone has such. (It fits the board, it's Baja California, right?)
