New San Diego Gem-The Mesquite Restaurant

We've now eaten at this new gem three different times and it's been superb. The Mesquite Restaurant, at the corner of I-15 and Mercy Road (Just west of the freeway behind the KFC)From the name you'd think all Southwestern. But not so. A handful of such dishes but amazing stuff like Lobster dynamite (Lobster in a Japanese mayo based sauce) Best lobster dish I've had in years. They have sushi (a delightful crispy crab roll) Amazing selection. One of the best meals I've had in San Diego in ten years. A wine list with some gems I'd never heard of (and I judge 6 major Calif. wine competitions each year.) Be forewarned-no reservations-if you go at peak times there will be a wait. (And instead of tablecloths they use paper-perhaps because the owner has two small kids who like to draw on the table while awaiting their meals) The word is out. We were there on a Wednesday night and at 7pm every table was full. Very highly recommended! (I have no $$ interest, I'm just a big fan.)
