Let me just preface this by saying that I adore Lupa, always recommend it to others, and is first on my list when I want to go out for a nice dinner....
.but I was there last night and, for the first time, experienced the "aggressively" salty pasta. I had the spagattini w/ portabello mushroom special, my boyfriend had the buccattini alla gricia and our friend had the sasauge and fennel gnocchi. The gnocchi was wonderful, as ususal, but the two pastas were really pushing the salt envelope. They weren't so salty that we wanted to send them back, but one more grain of salt on either of them would've pushed them into the inedible realm. By the time I got home I felt like I had sucked on a salt lick for a couple hours. I'm still trying to rehydrate. Everthing else was great. Testa, salumi, Wednesday's roast pork special, beets, tartufo.
I noticed some guy at another table sent back his pasta. Too salty, perhaps?
Someone in the earlier thread about this mentioned that maybe the aggressive salting was due to a specific cook. Come to think of it, I've only been there on Thus, Fri & Sat and never had a problem. Maybe Lupa should be avoided on Wednesday night?
