Recently Mom and I dropped into this small tortilleria and deli on the north end of town in the Boronda Plaza shopping center. It features hot tortillas made throughout the day (from Maseca, judging from the pile of bags).
An array of Mexican foods can be chosen from a hot and cold case. Carnitas and chicharrones are a specialty.
Mom and I each tried a super taco, $2.50, piled high with carnitas con todos (onions and cilantro). A bit of red chile salsa and a lime wedge accompanied on the side. The tortilla was indeed blazing hot and tender too. The carnitas were greaseless and light, and stained orange, which I’ve never seen before.
The carnitas were good, but the real star was the champurrado. Deep and dark with chocolate, pretty straight forward with little spice, and only $1.75 for about 10 ounces. We bought another one to take home with us.
A sign posted on the counter promised Jericallas for $2 apiece. But none available at the time. A reason to come back.
