RW review - Chef Geoff's (downtown)

I found myself accompanying a group of colleagues to Chef Geoff's downtown at the last minute on Friday, so here's a quick review.

Started out with a greek spinach salad w/red onions, feta, olives, and roasted red peppers. Not bad, though they put on too much oil (what else is new?). The olives and peppers were tasty but the feta lacked character.

My entree, however, was atrocious. I had the Hot Thai Salad, which consists of noodles with chicken and shrimp in a tangy peanut sauce. The sauce was far too sweet, killing the taste of the spices -- but the thing that put it over the edge was that the noodles were far from done. They were either way undercooke, or had been sitting under a heatlamp for a couple days.

The only thing that kept me from sending it back to the kitchen -- something I've only done once in my life -- was that I didn't want to embarrass the colleague who was paying for the meal.

Dessert was a vast improvement: apple and cranberry crisp a la mode. Nothing that I haven't had before, but it was still pretty yummy.

I have been to that CG location once before and had the same reaction both times: the decor is far more appealing than anything coming out of the kitchen. I should also note that our waitress was fantastic - polite, eager to find the answers to difficult questions, and attentive. Considering that the place was packed for Restaurant Week made her service all the more impressive.

It's just too bad the restaurant's menu always sounds so much better than the end result ...

However, should this review not deter you, that location is having a $25 dinner special through the end of February. The coupon below is good for up to 10 guests:
