RW - Corduroy Report

Moe Green | Jan 13, 2003 02:50 PM

Had lunch at Corduroy today. Overall, it was excellent. There were a whopping 9 choices of appetizers, 9 choices of entrees and 6 choices for dessert. I don't remember them all but here is what I can recall. Both my descriptions and the menu descriptions don't do the actual dishes justice.

Appetizers:
Goat cheese stuffed potato fritter
Tuna Carpaccio
Sqash Soup
Thai Spring Roll
Mixed Salad w/ shallot dreessing

Entrees:
Lamb sirloin w/ beans
Black grouper w/ potato pancake
Scallops w/ mashed potatoes
Mussels w/ frites
Steak w/ frites

Deserts:
Cookie bar
Chocolate tarte w/ fried banana
Crème Brulee
Mixed berries
Fresh ice cream

Everything we had was excellent. The highlights were the squash soup & goat cheese fritter for appetizers. Every entree was stellar, we tried the steak, lamb, and scallops. Notable was an amazingly flavorful steak (organic) with exceptional frites (double fried). The scallops were excellent, with perhaps a bit too much butter in the accompanying potatoes. Lastly, the lamb was roasted perfectly w/ what was the best beans I've ever had. They were basically a classic rendition of pork and beans that was so complex for something so simple. The cookie bar which is boosted from Citronelle (proper homage is attributed to Michel Richard in the description) was not as good as the original but is a must have.

I would adamantly recommend Corduroy for RW and I would not hesitate to go back for the regular menu. As a lot of people have stated, it's in a pretty non-descript location in a Sheraton at 12th and K. The decor was great & service was well paced.

Surprisingly, the restaurant was about 1/2 full at 1 PM and tapered off. I guess it's location is a factor. It's certainly got nothing to do with the food.
