I had no clue this place existed...and would never think the Davis Square area is a destination for dinner (for one thing, I live in Brookline...it's just too far)...but I went to Rudy's in Teele Square with a friend for a casual dinner last week. And it was delish.
I used to live in Albuquerque, NM...and have yet to find a place in MA that holds a candle to some of my fave Mexican joins in the Southwest. Granted, Rudy's is really 'tex-mex'...but it did the job for me.
We started with queso and chips...the queso was mild, hot but a little thin...The chips were great and overall, I was happy with it. We also got some guacamole on the side...which was delish.
I followed with the pulled pork quesadilla...which was great. Not spicy...but sweet. With some salsa verde poured on top (which I had to pay extra for), it was a good combo of hot and sweet. It didn't come with any sides...but that was more than enough food. And for only $10 or so. My friend ordered a combo plate that included a taco, chimichanga and enchilada. A ton of food...He also managed to put away two margharitas...which are infused with jalepeno tequila. Too hot for me...but I the prickly pear one looked good.
Don't get me wrong...This is not sophisticated food. It's cheap, greasy, cheesy and good. If you're looking for a casual, kid-friendly and as close to good tex mex as you can get (sorry, folks...Chilli's doesn't count) that Rudy's is a good bet.
