I searched the board to see if anyone else has tried Rosita's in Union Square yet and didn't see anything so here's my take....
Went there on Sat for lunch after strolling through our wonderful Union Sq. Farmer's Market. The place looks pretty much the same as the bakery that was there before. Big, clean, nice colors, sparse decor.
My date and I both wanted carnitas so I got the 2 tacos and he the burrito. We took em home because it was really hot in there and we had to get back to the TV to cheer for Andre Agassi (oh well). When we ordered we noticed that the three people working the register and the line were not smiling and looked unsure of what to do. They seemed a little tentative, which made me wary of what we were gonna end up with for lunch.
Much to my surprise and disappointment my tacos were on FLOUR tortillas. I don't know what that's about, but in my experience, a taco is on a corn tortilla - that's fundamental, no? The toppings were fresh and the salsa verde had nice heat but the carnitas were way overcooked and swimming in cooking liquid which totally soaked the tacos. Bummer.
The burrito left an even less favorable impression on my date. He asked for sour cream, which they missed and all in all it was just really dry and not too flavorful. I saw a little container of salsa verde that I thought was coming with us but it never made it into our to-go bag. I'm not sure that would have made it better anyway.
I wanted to love this place. It's in the hood and it's really cute from the outside but, alas, another taco disappointment in the Boston area.
