We finally got to Rock Soup last evening to catch the Blue Room Boys and were glad we did. This place has an outstanding live music program if you like jazz and folk, and we found dinner to be pretty winning too and very reasonably prices (entrees under $15).
We started with mixed green salads which were exemplary -- good assortment of greens, including some radicchio perfectly dressed with a good house vinagrette and topped off with some good tomatos, roasted pecans and crumbled blue cheese.
I went for the seafood fettucine, which had shrimp, whole small clams in the shell and slices of calamari in a garlic, white wine sauce. The pasta had clearly finished cooking in the sauce which then impregnated every noodle. For that reason, it ended up a hair drier than it should have been, but was extremely tasty.
My husband had a fish special -- grilled wahoo with a beurre blanc, and plenty of zucchini and other veggies that were perfectly cooked. The fish was quite nice (and a large portion) and extremely reasonably priced at $12.95.
The restaurant also specializes -- ala the name -- in homemade soups, which we didn't try this trip. They do 3 special ones each day plus a baked potato soup that is always on the menu. Breads are house-made buttermilk biscuits.
The available wines are pretty limited, but good quality. We had a De Loach Chardonnay.
All in all, a pleasant place and worth a visit.
