Tried Risotto, formerly Spumanti, on Ventura, East of Coldwater across from Jerry's Deli on Friday night.
Had made a reservation via phone. Host/owner welcomed us warmly and took us to a table on the patio which I had requested. Patio is nice, because it's in the back, you don't hear the Ventura Blvd traffic. There are probably about 10-12 tables on this back patio.
They offered water, mentioned the bottled choices, but did not push them. Bread was brought with a small dish of a nice, what I can only describe as ratatullie (I'm sure there is an italian equivlant I don't know the name of). The bus boy also followed with balsamic and olive oil which he poured and did not leave the bottles.
To start we both had their soup du jour, a crab bisque that was very tasty with generous amounts of crab. For my main I had a sea bass that was on a bed of saffron risotto and served with snow peas. I liked everything but risotto (ironic, huh?). I'm not a big risotto eater, in fact perhaps this was maybe only the third time I've had it in my life. It tasted firm and undercooked, is that the way it's prepared? For his main, hubby had lobster ravioli with a tomato sauce. This dish was tasty, very generous portion and extra lobster pieces in the sauce, not just in the ravoli.
For dessert we split a hazelnut gelato and two excellent lattes.
Sorry I can't speak about the wine selection, we don't partake, so I can't report on the variety/selection.
Our waiter started off very attentive and understandibly less attentive when it got more crowded, but never inattentive.
The pre-tip bill/tax (with one Coke) was $71.
Overall it was a nice experience and I would go again to try other things. The menu was large with a lot of choices. They are open for lunch daily except Sunday, I'd try it again for lunch to save a little $.
Yes Virginia, there is free parking in the Valley!
