Review: Mole Mole, Excellent Mexican at a Great Price

Here's a short review of last night's dinner at Mole Mole (the new location at 14 Mt. Carmel Place, near the Poughkeepsie train station - 845-454-2339).

We had been to their first location at 805 Main Street, in the dodgy area near Vassar, some years ago. The food was OK, but they may have been having an off night, and we didn't feel like making the trek for so-so food.

On the train ride back from NYC, we decided to stop at the new location, about three blocks from the station.

The restaurant is in a small storefront, with about 10 tables. The waiter was helpful, and we had chips and absolutely fresh salsa in a minute. The salsa was spectacular, with fresh notes and an occasional bite of fresh jalapeno.

My wife had the chicken taquitos and I had the carne asada. Both were accompanied by refried beans, rice and an avocado salad. Everything made fresh, and flavorful. A true bargain, the dinners and a couple of sodas came to $18 total.

Before we left, we bought a large package of corn tortillas (for a dollar), since they have a good selection of Mexican groceries on shelves at one side of the dining room.

We'll be back... It's nice to find a good bargain like this opening.
