My date and I enjoyed a first visit this past Friday and I think the place shows real potential. A market menu with both a $25 prix fixe and ala carte options, while not long, didnt feel limited.
My starter struck me funny, snails with spaetzle, but I really loved it to death. I asked for salt since it wasnt on the table and a jot of it really made the dish pop. My companion had red and yellow slices of tomato with feta and olives and a basil coulis and he enjoyed it very much.
My entrée was a juicy hanger steak with mashed potatoes and green and wax beans, nicely cooked and no extra seasoning needed there. The only miss was the pork chop, which my companion pronounced unremarkable. There was a nice shredded cabbage accompaniment and he said that he would have appreciated a more generous serving of that and of the mashed potato.
Décor is spare but pleasant, the tables nicely spaced. The wine list is agreeable and affordable. I look forward to another visit and to trying some of the fish dishes. Carleton Ave @ St. Marks Place, cash only.
