I went to M on 8th. street this past Friday, and the food was excellent. The place is just beautiful with an incredible courtyard for outdoor dining (probably the nicest outdoor seating I've ever seen) and the bar is small, and classy. There is a blackboard "Tavern Menu" in the bar with things like serrano ham, salami, steak frites, and oysters. The dinner menu was small and nice. 2 of us had the following:
Cold english pea soup with crab and mint garnish. Incredibly refreshing!
Oven dried tomato tart with ricotta salata, and the best pesto I've ever had.
Prime N.Y. strip steak with fregola sarda, wild mushrooms, asparagus, and bordelaise sauce. The steak was seriously better than any I've had in a steak house. Seriously.
Spiced alaskan halibut with beluga lentils, bacon, glazed carrots and orange red wine sauce. Whatever the spices were on the fish just elevated the dish. Tasted like cumin mixed with other spices, subtle, but strong enough. The lentils were delicious.
Summer berry napoleon with mascarpone cream, and filo crisps was one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth! Perfect for the summer, with raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries.
We had an incredible rose with the meal, and I sadly do not remember the name of the label. The dining room is a very nice space, but needs some decor help, and the bathrooms are very nice and clean! Major importance. I will go back to this place, and I have a feeling it is going to get really hot, I haven't had such a good all around dining experience in a while. The service was great, as was the very friendly bartender (Joe, heard a staff member say his name) he actually seemed like the manager. I do not know who owns this place, nor who the chef is, I live 2 blocks away and have been seeing this place getting ready for 2 years. There is also no sign? Very weird, but it's rather easy to find.
