Had a lovely 2 day stay in Houston before jetting off to Austin for the weekend. In fact, I think I had two of the best meals I've had in a long time....and I just got back from San Fran!!
First night we went to Reef. I'm a HUGE fish/seafood fan and I've had some of the best around the world...but I have to say that Reef lived up to the best and was FAR less expensive than the other top places I've been to.
I started with a lovely grilled shrimp salad and my husband had oysters. Both appps were really fresh and the shrimp were perfectly seasoned. For mains...I had the scallops with sweet potato mash and greens and my husband had the grouper in jus. The scallops were so beautifully done on the grill that they had a carmalization on the outside that was unlike anything I'd had before. But the grouper was by far the standout. Could smell the mellowness of the jus as it was coming to the table and the taste went beyond all expectations! Add to this the cool yet casual ambiance of the place and it was truly an amazing meal. SO much on the menu I wanted to try...will be back for sure.
Second night we went to Indika. I LOVE modern Indian food and again have been to some of the best places around the world. This was phenomenal!! Started out with the Kale and blueberry salad which was made perfectly tart by a lime dressing. My husband had the goat brain appetizer which was really unique and delicate and had lovely spicing to it. Entree was Red Snapper with the Almond/Cliantro curry - and I would have licked the plate if no one was looking - it was THAT good. And my husband had the lamb two ways which was tender and with a good amount of flavour. Again....the cool yet casual vibe topped off the dinner and made this one a must try again resto.
Finally....thank you again for the help re where to go near the MFAH....I ended up at Prego as some of you suggested and had a lovely grilled chicken salad and some wine and was perfectly happy. Fresh ingredients....good service....comfortable to eat alone....no one rushed me....and was nice to walk around the area following.
So...my first time to Houston...and I can honestly say that I had a very unexpected but VERY positive foodie experience!!!
