hi. my husband and i just got back from a trip down coastal maine, and i thought i'd post our favorite eating experiences:

portland—gilbert's chowder house on commercial street (we actually ate there twice). hubby loved the seafood chowder in the breadbowl). good fish sandwiches, too.

bar harbor—thurston's lobster pound (it's actually on the other side of the island, about 20 minutes from bar harbor, but very worthwhile). cafeteria style; we both ate 1 1/2 pounders, and with corn, a roll, some great cole slaw and blueberry cake, it came to about $24 per person.

camden—miller's, another lobster pound, about 15 minutes from camden (maybe in rockland?), off rte. 73. right on the water, cateteria style. again, 1 1/2 pounders with one side, about $24 pp. byob...also, in camden, bayview, on the water. good "deluxe" lobster roll for $13.

kennebunkport—mabel's lobster claw, on ocean avenue. cute place, good seafood. 2 entrees (which came with a salad and a side) and one glass of wine came to about $65, inc. tax and tip.

we also went to federal jack's in kennebunkport. decent pub food, if you're sick of seafood!
