Thanks to all of the Chowhound who recommended favorites in Paris. We had a lovely time and I wanted to report back. For the record, we were on somewhat of a budget (the exchange rate hurts!), so no stars or really high end places.
Best two dinners were La Fermette Marbeouf (near Champs Elysee) and Casa Bina, a Moroccan-Andalucian place near Republique metro stop. La FM has a really lovely art nouveau dining room and felt like a special dinner place. At 32 Euro, the menu was a very good deal (to us) and the service, though hectic, was so friendly. A good deal for the experience.
Casa Bina was a great find recommended by a friend who lives in the Republique/Oberkampf area. Dark and cozy north african decor and very friendly owner. Amazing tagines and b'stella. My tagine had fresh artichokes and lamb and was truly amazing. I'd go back in a second, and we really enjoyed the break from the more traditional french food.
Tried Chez Denise, but with no reservations went to Chez Clovis. A nice experience, but not as wonderful as I might have thought.
Thanks to the other suggestions for Berthillon and Laduree (for macarons) -- they were highlights of the trip.
