Report on Le Mas Perrier

Notwithstanding the less than favorable collective opinion of posters about Le Mas, my wife and I indeed went there for dinner to celebrate our anniversary (we have an infant at home and needed to stay close to home - otherwise we would have gone to CC or to NY or even Paris! well, maybe not Paris...). We had a very good, not great, meal. We shared 2 appetizers - a lobster risotto and a crabcake. The risotto was the best dish I had - perfectly cooked and seasoned. The crab cake was seasoned in the most unusual way - with fennel seed and orange zest. It was certainly different, but I can't say we particularly loved it. For entrees, I had the bouillabaisse, which was served more like a selection of beautifully prepared fish arranged in a shallow pool of thin broth than as a stew or soup. Having said that, it was quite good. My wife had the halibut, and I don't recall how it was prepared, but she loved it. Service was attentive but not overbearing. It was less expensive than I thought it would be, particularly since I didn't have the half lobster in the bouillabaisse which added $9 to the price. I must admit that I never saw the check since my parents, who were babysitting the kids, called up during dinner and took care of the check as an anniversary gift! (God bless their souls!)
