Report on Cru and a question for y'all

Thanks to Bob Mac for your great suggestions about Cru. We loved our evening there!

We went for the Prix Fixe menu with a small plate appetizer. We started with the steamed mussels in lemongrass and coconut milk - wonderful!! And lots of them! Definitely some of the best I've tasted thanks to the delicious broth.

Hubby had the beef carpaccio, grilled pork chop with tamerind riesling glaze (yum!) and I had the seafood soup and beef tenderloin with blue cheese souffle. The soup was a little disappointing after the wonderful mussels...good but not as tasty a broth as the mussels and the the "seafood soup" was mostly mussels again (should have thought that one through before I ordered..oh well) The tenderloin was very tasty however, not among the most tender tenderloin meals I've tasted. The blue cheese souffle was very delicate and definitely a good accompaniment to the tenderloin. We finished with the homemade icecream.

Here's my question...they didn't have any drip coffee (I've gotta have a few cups after a meal or I writhe in pain) Instead, they brought me an Americano in a teeny-tiny-itsy-bitsy-espresso cup at $3.00 a pop. Not so great for the coffee guzzlers like me....who wants to pay more for their after-dinner coffee than they did their wine? Please tell me that this is not a new restaurant trend...I may have to start sneaking in my own battery-operated coffee maker. (ah...do they make battery-operated coffee makers?)

Oh, and the service....good..sorta. We waited a long, long time between our appetizers and our main course. Apologies all round but we felt rushed at the end because they wanted us out within two hours for their new reservations.

Minor annoyances...But go!! It's great fun.
