What ended up happening was I gave my boyfriend a choice of 5 restaurants and he chose Annisa, so I thought I'd post about the night. Our reservation was originally for 8:30 on Saturday night, but after getting a light snack in Soho, it was pouring rain and rather than trying to find something to do indoors for several hours, we decided to try and get in at 5:30-6. When we called, we were told to get there right away. We arrived at 6, and I was a little cautious after reading about the poor service others had received. However, we didn't have any problems that night. The hostess was polite and took our soaking coats, and we were seated in the empty restaurant. We decided on the 5 course tasting menu for $68 each, and the waitress was very accomodating and helpful to our needs: no raw meat, and no meat but fish and no dairy products for me. She said Anita would work around it. While the parents and boyfriend got a bottle of red wine they were satisfied with, they were aware I preferred white and ordered a glass for me. Since I have no knowledge really about wines, the waitress decided to give me a sample of one, which was to my liking. She was very efficient, if somewhat brisk, but no complaints whatsoever.
For the first course we had the lobster and caviar, then the sable in miso broth, then halibut with artichokes. The 4th course is where everyone else got lamb with potatoes and Chinese veggies, while I got monkfish with haricots verts with a vinegary sauce. The standout dish was the halibut, which was cooked to perfection, and the definite miss was the sable - it was so salty it was rendered inedible. For desserts, we each got to choose our own. I got sorbet (lemon, raspberry & mango - ordinary but good, especially the mango), the boyfriend got chocolate cake, the mother got the grapefruit with ginger soup and sweet avocado mousse (almost like a health tonic, but definitely interesting), and the dad got apple tart. Everyone was satisfied, so I want to thank everyone for their help and suggestions!
