Reno tips for oakjoan, and a lament for Sapna

The wonderful South Indian restaurant you mentioned was Sapna. We miss it greatly!!! The owner (Jimmy Chan, of ethnic Chinese descent but born in India), sold it and moved on; it became a Punjabi restaurant and soon went out of business. I think there is a second-rate tacqueria there now. There are a couple of ok Indian restaurants in Reno, but none as good as Sapna (a name which means dream. It was a dream.). As for tips for your Scrabble tournaments, Cafe du Thai tries too hard to be upscale for my taste. My current favorite Thai restaurant is Bangkok Cuisine, on Mt. Rose St. just off of Virginia (north of Plumb). In the strip mall across Mt. Rose St. from Bangkok you'll find India Garden, an ok (mostly Northern) Indian place. If you make it to Sparks, my office had takeout lunch today from La Familighia (sp?) a new Italian place on Victorian Avenue next door to the Great Basin Brewery (a good place for a brew, live music, and fish and chips, btw). We all ate various types of pasta from La Familighia, and everyone declared it delicious!! Prices were very reasonable. If Steve T. is listening, this is the place I was thinking of as a possible chowdown site. Sorry, I only had the wrong city. But definitely worth checking out; I intend to have dinner there soon.
