I'm just wondering: 1) If anyone out there remembers this place; and 2) whether the owner opened a new place or gave his/her recipes to anyone?
Back in the mid 1980's, this place was at the corner of about Leavenworth and Market, and made some of the best Almond Croissants I've ever had. Noplace else has even come close. Also, their Whole Wheat and Chocolate Croissants were magnificent, and they did a really nice pastry with raisins in it. They closed sometime in the early 1990s, and I would really like to find someplace comparable.
All of the workers there were either from France or Belgium, but my guess is that the style of croissant and other pastries was more Belgian than French. I have never found anything close, in Paris, in the Bay Area, or anyplace else.
