I worked in Boston in the 80's and remember a calzone/pizza restaurant called Bel Cantos. There was one in Beacon Hill on Charles St. and one in Cambridge between Harvard Square and Central Sq. Also one in Lexington Square.
One reason I liked them was because they would sell the calzones unbaked and I would take a bag of them home to keep in refrigerator or freezer. I could then bake anytime. They were nice to have on hand during a snowstorm when I didn't want to go out.
Also nice was the fact you could get either the calzones or pizza with either white or wheat bread. I enjoyed the pepperoni with three cheese calzones, as well the turkey, Swiss and spinach calzones, etc.
I did a web search to see if Bel Cantos still exists and apparently it doesn't.
My question is this: what happened to Bel Cantos? Did it lose popularity and have to close? Did somebody buy them out? When did this happen?
I haven't been to Boston in years and am curious about Bel Cantos.
