So a small group of us gathered in Brentwood at the Country Mart, (basically 26th and San Vicente in Santa Monica) for chicken and fries, and some ribs too, in at least one case. Tom Swift and his wife and Chopstix up from the South Bay, Sandra W, plus LBQT and friend.
Someone had recently posted that they had thought the chicken dry and the fries not all that great. I think the chicken was very moist today and with Tom keeping the fries flowing I had more than enough to pronounce them quite good. Some like the crispy chicken skin, which Reddi-Chick is not, but I like the most and flavorful skin at R-C.
This was more about comaraderie, but the food was fine to and the day was beautiful. The Country Mart is like old homeweek for many people who have grown up eating and meeting there, and Tom Swift and his wife even ran into someone they knew who had not come to our little event. A really nice community feel to R-C, which LA is sorely lacking.
Just as an aside, Chopstix suggested a dim sum event at one of the big places in Monterey Park, (or ajacent area) at some future time and I think that is going to be worked on and will be posted about.
