As of noon on Saturday, April 23, the Red Hook ball fields are open for business. What I had:
A fantastic pork tamale from an El Salvadoran vendor? (I think - this was a huge tamale wrapped in a banana leaf - I think she said they were from El Salvador.) - $3
A cheese empanada from the (new?) Chilean vendor. I wanted to try their fantastic looking ceviches, but I didn't have it in me this AM. The empanada was OK, but fried long before I ordered it. The beef and chicken ones looked markedly better. - $1
Chorizo taco "con todos" - from the Mexican stand on the "long side" of the field. (Is that north?) Very tasty, and really good spicy avocado sauce and pickled jalapenos. (Be warned - lots of seeds in the pickled jalapenos.) - $2
That was all my stomach could handle. It wasn't that crowded yet, as it was the first day of the season and rather dismal out. BUt I got to watch the parade of the different teams - favorites - the West Indian team wearing FC Barcelona jerseys, and the girls in prom-type dresses and high heels walking across the pitch in front of their respective teams. Hilarious!
Hope to hear some other reports from you guys!
