This is the best Mexican food I've had since I was in Austin. It's called La Chalupa and it's across the street from the train station in Red Bank. (Can't find it in the phone book.)
Mostly Mexicans hang out there. They have soccer team posters on the wall and a juke box. They had two big jars of aguas frescas on the counter. The watermelon aguas was delicious. I ordered huevos with bacon for $6. It was a huge portion. The rice and beans were good! My husbands chiles rellanos were filled with a firm mild cheese, very lightly battered and covered with mild red sauce. The table next to me had seafood soup, that looked so good I was tempted to ask them for a taste.
This is not a tex-mex flavor place. The cook is from Puebla in central Mexico.
Can't wait to go back!
Unfortunately, they do not make their own tortillas.
