We ate at The Worx, 106 Barnhardt St, Greensboro, NC (336) 285-9391 · theworxrestaurant.com for the first time on 9/29/13 and liked it so much we returned two days ago with a group of friends - both days were Sundays. Sundays they have a Benedict special. Two Sundays ago it was a crab cake on eggs Benedict. This past Sunday it was Salmon cake on eggs Benedict. My wife got the seared crab cake entrée which was two crab cakes on top of buttermilk mashed potatoes with Jalepeno Remoulade sauce on the side. Both the crab cake and the salmon cake were very meaty and moist. The muffins are fresh and from a baker only a couple of blocks away. I also had the grilled cider brined pork chop. It was thick and juicy and cooked to the temperature I ordered. It came with a bacon cherry jam. The pork chop was placed on top of mashed bourbon sweet potatoes and bacon sherry collard greens. All was delicious.
We also got the lager cheese dip appetizer. Fried pretzels came with it to dip. It was all mouth-watering good. We did order a couple extra pretzels to share with our friends and there was still more than enough cheese dip.
The waitress we had both times was friendly, conscientious and did a great job.
The first time we went one of the managers (Nick Piornack) came over to introduce himself and ask if we needed anything else. He told us the company that opened this restaurant (Momentum) was a successful retail developer in Raleigh. They will open a mexican restaurant next door in a few months called Spicy Cantina which will use fresh locally sourced food. We're looking forward to that as we don't like the Mexican restaurants in this area.
The back of the restaurant is right next to the railroad tracks so if you eat out on the front porch be prepared for an occasional interruption. I don't know what it's like while sitting inside.
The Worx is on a sidestreet and not very visible from S. Elm St and they are limited the size of sign they can put out on the corner. And a lot of people who like truly great food don't tend to come downtown. So not many people know about them yet. However, it is only a matter of time that others will join us in saying The Worx is one of the best restaurants in Greensboro.
