rebecca's in greenwich (poor value)

Just thought i would add a report about Rebeccas in Greenwich. This past Staturday night 6 of us went to Rebeccas for dinner. The food was indeed outstanding, but way way overpriced for the ambiance and the service. It was extremely noisy, tables were way to close together, in many spots chairs were touching from different tables, waiters had to go around the room to get to the other side of our table for 6! Though we were seated at our reservation time (we were 6 so perhaps thats why ...not many tables that size) I could not help but notice many groups of 2 and 4 milling about the bar probably waiting for there tables, so maybe they do not seat smaller groups promptly on Sat nights, go with caution. At at least $100 per person (without wine) one expects more. Watch out for the specials they vary between 15% and 25% over the highest price items on the menu, example baked potato stuffed with a 1 or 1/1/2 lb, lobster $65, a rib eye steak for two $95 (which is more then double the price for 2 single orders of steak that was on the menu. Most of the wine is marked up 3X. The wait staff though polite, were completely unknowledgeable about wine (2X brought the wrong bottle and even charged us for the bottle we never had, they did apologize, but still...)and the service was slow and inexperienced.
If you want to eat great food at high prices (which I don't mind doing as long as all the pieces are in place)you'd be better off at Blue Hill, Chanterrel, Daniel or La Bernadin (these are all amazing even at the extremely high prices that they have) Those places provide the ambiance, the comfort and the service that is appropriate for this price level. Perhaps because of the Greenwich address or perhaps the owners think that good food (which the food is) is worth any price. For my bucks I'd rather go to the places I mentioned.
