I was wandering around the aisles of Bay Cities in Santa Monica today while waiting for my number to be called so I could get my hands on a Godmother sandwich with hot peppers and the works.
Next to the cookies, opposite the deli case, amongst the bottles of domestic Nutella, were a few discrete bottles of the Italian version. There was no special signage, no form of demarcation or differentiation. It was as if they didn't want anybody to know that they had been there all along.
My first thought... get it while you can. (NOTE: it is a few dollars more per jar than the domestic.)
For those of you who don't know, American Nutella is not ... the same as Italian Nutella. American Nutella is made from a different recipe. There’s more chocolate, more sugar, less hazelnut. It’s certainly not bad, but it’s…different. It is rare to find the Italian version.
P.S. Bay Cities doesn't carry this all the time. If you know of a regular source for Italian Nutella let me know. Thanks.
