REAL Indonesian/Malay (Malaysian) food in NYC!

I have written to this page before to express my saddness that there was no authentic Indonesian/Malay (Malaysian) food in NYC. Up until recently the only thing I found in all the top rated 'Malaysian' restaurants was quite terrible greasy food cooked by ethnic Chinese who are from SE Asia that did not even resemble the delicious peranakan food that we have in Singapore.

BUT THERE IS GREAT NEWS! In Queens a few blocks from the R, 7, E, F, and V trains is a restaurant I found called Upi Jaya. The food is excellent! It has the best combination of home style and refined restaurant style cooking, with the authentic taste that I have been yearning for since coming here from Singapore in the 80's. The menu is a bit limited but no more than you would expect from a small restaurant.

So check it out. It is at 76-04 Woodside Ave in Elmhurst and the phone number is 718-458-1807.
