REAL Fried Clams with Bellies?

Jumpcut | Mar 10, 2006 07:11 PM

Is there anywhere on the westside to get real fried whole-belly soft clams like those commonly found on the east coast at clam shacks and Legal Seafoods?

I'm not talking about clams strips, but the fresh soft belly fried clams.

I recently tried Sonny Mclean's in Santa Monica but was disappointed. They were advertised as whole belly, but they seemed really small, possibly frozen.

Years ago I went to Sid's Seafood House in Canoga Park...it was decent, but it's not on the westside. Jar has a fried clam appetizer, but it's tiny and expensive. Before it closed, Menemsha in MDR served an ok portion of real whole-belly clams.

Any other ideas?
