Just back from 2 1/2 weeks in northern Malaysia, all of it spent in pretty small towns. I did a search here and not one of them has been mentioned as having a good restaurant, other than Ipoh where I only spent a few hours.
If anyone is going thru Raub on the way up to the Cameron Highlands, I recommend a stop at Restoran Ratha. They do an awesome Kambing Goreng, perfectly pan fried with a great spice rub. If it's sitting out on the steam table, ask if they can do some fresh. It's worth the wait. Probably the best grilled lamb chops I've ever had in Asia. The fish curry, chicken curry and ayam rendang were all excellent too.
They have two other locations -- Goh Tong Jaya, Genting Highland, and in Bentong, Pahang -- but I've never been to either of those.
