Rajmantra has opened in the same site that previously hosted a very mediocre Indian restaurant, which in turn was preceded by a very mediocre Afghan restaurant (the Good Guys plaza on El Camino just west of Bernardo).
The dinner menu is currently very small and doesn't seem (to my inexperienced eye) particular Nepalese vs. northern Indian. I ordered the Kukhura Ko Tarkari, as the Tarkari dishes were the one thing I didn't recognize from other restaurants. It was quite tasty; certainly better than anything I had at the previous two restaurants.
I was told this dish was a combination Nepalese/Indian dish. I was also told that they've only been open for a couple of weeks and that the chef is working on some more Nepalese dishes to add to the menu over the next few weeks. I encouraged them in that effort given the stiff competition in the neighborhood!
So it's promising, but I'll wait a few more weeks before going back and see how they develop their menu. There's also a lunch buffet, but I'm not a buffet fan so I'll be skipping that.
Any opinions from folks more knowledgeable about Nepalese cuisine?
