This Saturday is the appointed day for my mother's annual birthday picnic. Unfortunately, it looks as if the weather may be iffy.
So I'm looking for suggestions for:
1. A place where we could set up a picnic under cover if necessary.
2. At or near a point of scenic, cultural, historic, chowish, etc. interest.
3. Not more than 90 minutes drive from Oakland.
In particular, I was looking at wineries in the Livermore area and many of them have picnic areas -- anyone familiar with any of them?
To give an example, last year's picnic was at Black Diamond Mines State park (old mining area on the north slope of Mt. Diablo), and previous picnics have been held at the Western Railway Museum in the Rio Vista (highly recommended -- the delta is glorious in the spring), both beach and redwood locations on the San Mateo coast, a winery in the Santa Cruz mountains, the Petaluma adobe, etc.
