The descriptions of the menu from Thai Aree from last week sounds awesome. Are those dishes typical of what is on their regular menu or were those prepared especially for a Chowhound outting?
On a related note, I had lunch today at Amarinds on North Avenue for the first time. Given the emphasis on Oak Park restaurants on this message board, I'm sure that many of you have experienced it yourselves
The Tom Kha Chicken Soup was excellent with really clean flavors. You could really taste the lime, kaffir leaves and coconut milk individually in the soup.
The Holy basil squid with minced chicken really left me at a loss as an entree. The flavors of the sauce were good, but lacked any spicy kick at all. My dining companion had the basil chicken with chil sauce which was properly prepared (the chicken was minced to absorb the flavor of the sauce). But, he too, noted that his entree lacked the spice that he associates with good Thai food.
Do others find that Amarinds will spice up its entrees upon request? If so, I'll be back.
