I read the thread on Lalibela (excuse spelling if wrong) on Lake street. I do hate to see locally owned places go away, but then it surely is not my favorite Ethiopian food in the cities and I'd much rather support a business that I enjoy. Plus the service at Lalibela was frustrating.
At any rate, I personally prefer Queen of Sheba in St. Paul on West 7th. It's in a tiny strip mall, but I've been going there for a couple of years and they have significantly "upgraded" the interior. It's a comfortable, upscale cafe environment, and the food it just great. The service can be slow but I think that has also improved.
Of course, what is best is all a matter of personal tastebuds. My only previous experience in eating Ethiopian was in Chicago where I grew up...which does not necessarily mean it was authentic.
If I had a choice of eating at Lalibela, Queen of Sheba, or the other place I've had Ethiopian food (near Snelling and University...cannot remember name) QoS would be first, the place on Snelling second and Lalibela last. I liked the decor at Lalibela, but pefer the food elsewhere. And the one on Snelling sometimes has live music, and the decor is certainly nice.
Just my opinion.
