JESUS! Thanks to the folks that suggested I go to QQ. This is a new favorite. A haunting-my-waking-and-sleeping-life type of favorite.
Sort of simple snacks. We had a ton of stuff. Pretty good dumplings, pretty good (very rustic) noodle soup.
Highlights: a pork chop, simmered I think, in lush sauce. Had a hot-pot feel to it. With long simmered egg, and beautiful little pickles. Spicy and marinated and gooood.
And this thing... this THING... this magesterial dirty street food of a thing...
It was a steamed bun, flat, almost like a big version of the Cantonese style version of Peking Duck buns - flat sweet steamed bun. With ground nuts and sour chopped pickle bits and fatty bits of simmered, intensely flavored, caramelly pork. Jesus, this was... I can't... it was fantastic. It was dirty. It was beautiful.
Also excellent simmered/pressed tofu. Very tofu-y.
Tell me more about Taiwanese snack joints, or other similar snack joints.
