Problems with NY top notch restaurants

Lonely-Eater | Dec 5, 2002 09:05 AM

I am one of those people who love eating good food and trying out new or legendary restaurants. I've been just about everywhere in Manhattan - Jean Georges, Daniel, Gramercy Tavern, Chanterelle, Le Bernadin, Nobu, Sugiyama, Babbo, Bouley, etc.

However, I don't drink alcohol and I really don't have a huge stomach, as a result, whenever I go to these restaurants I don't usually drink wine or any other alcoholic drinks, only water or tea. I know I'm missing out one of the finest things in life, but I have allergy with alcohol. I also don't order more than two parts of the complete meals, either just appetizer and main entree or the main entree and dessert, and sometimes just the main entree itself. Never order more than two, unless I have to order 3 course pre-fixes or more.

But I notice that whenever I go to these places, the waiters always give me a funny look, often times very unpleasant, whenever I refuse to order wine or any forms of alcoholic drinks and if I just order an entree, instead of a three course meal. I know that their tips depends on how much I order, but It's not like I am being cheap or anything, it just don't drink alcohol at all and I don't have a big stomach.

Is there a way for me to complain whenever the waiters give me that look again ?
