OK fellow Hounds, here's the challenge. Mom & Dad are coming to visit at the end of the month and I need to find at least one good place to meet them for dinner after work. They're used to high-end NYC steakhouses & Italian, Mom is *highly* allergic to all seafood, and Dad isn't into anything even remotely exotic and he's extremely picky with a very unadventurous palate . They're both a little hard of hearing at this point so noisy places aren't the best, and since neither of them should be driving very much at night, particularly when they don't know their way around, I need to keep it as close as possible to their hotel - they're staying at the Sofitel by the Beverly Center.
So, having said all that, they loved Angelini Osteria when I took them there years ago, but it's too noisy. I'd love to take them to Jar because the menu would make everyone happy, but I'm concerned about the noise. French doesn't fly with Dad, so Lucques, Ortolan et al are out, and the food at Bastide is too fussy for him. They love Spago, but we've been there several times and I don't want them driving that far anyway. And finally, Mom just had mouth surgery, so though she'd LOVE to dive into a nice rare steak at Cut or someplace similar, that's not happening, she'll need to have something softer & gentler.
So...at this point I'm thinking Locanda Veneta may be our best & only real option. I've actually never been, but it gets a lot of love here on the board.
Does that sound like a good choice? Any insight or other suggestions would be great, because I'd like to have at least a couple of options in case my work schedule permits more than one midweek dinner with them.
