Since I love the beet and goats cheese salad at
Press 195 (195 Fifth Avenue, Park Slope) I was happy that they opened a branch in queens closer to FH where I actually live, but hadn't had a chance to stop by.
Tonight I am eldersitting for my almost 90 year old great aunt who lives in Little Neck and so instead of going to the Kebab House or Nelson's on Northern Blvd (both excellent but our ususual family haunts when we visit her) we dragged her a few exits down Northern Blvd to Bayside.
The owner from Park Slope, Brian was on duty and we chatted briefly. He didn't recognize me (I've only been to the Park SLope locations 6 or so times over the past 3 years but we know people in common and I am also in the food biz so it was a lively conversation.
I will say that as ususual I found the salad and sandwiches we had to be really tasty, fresh and satisfying both to the palate and pocketbook.
Had the beet and goats cheese salad with the maple vinaigrette (I think - that's my memory of the dressing ingredients - taste is tart with a hint of sweetness but not too sweet)
Sandwiches were 2 orders of the roast beef with horseradish etc (one without the dressing) and mine was the housemade roast pork with jalapeno, fresh cilantro & melted jack which I changed to goats cheese, with roasted garlic dressing. Very tasty and filling. The place is more sedate than Brooklyn but personally I miss the bright colors - still a nice clean space - long and narrow too with a big backyard that should be great in the summer.
Glad to have a reasonably priced fresh food option nearby!
