Poppyseed pastry?

Amy | Jan 20, 2005 12:53 PM

I have been searching for this elusive creature in the bay area to no avail. What I'm looking for is the kind of luscious poppyseed treat you get in Poland, filled with wads of sweet, moist poppyseeds. What one seems to get in the bay area is something daubed with a dry, unpleasant dollop of poppyseed. Not the thing at all.

I tried the Hungarian poppyseed pastry thing at Boulette's Larder yesterday, and was sorely disappointed. Dry, bland pastry, miserly smear of bland poppyseed filling. Yuch.

I dream of the poppyseed filled delights of Eastern Europe...any ideas? East Bay preferred, but willing to travel.
