Pop Up Café: The Coffee Shop in Sebastopol’s Saint Rose

Thanks to a tip from Heather irwin’s BiteClub, yesterday morning I headed over to Sebastopol’s Saint Rose to check out the morning café action. From 7am to noon, Monday through Saturday, The Coffee Shop takes over Mark Malicki’s restaurant for a pop-up café.

The woman who runs The Coffee Shop used to operate the Orange Café. Local favorite, Village Bakery supplies most of the breakfast pastries.

Santa Rosa’s celebrated roaster, Ecco Caffe is the coffee of choice. I had a cappuccino, $2.50, and a refill from the self-serve coffee urn.

Right now, the only hot item is an egg and ham sandwich with a choice of cheddar or pepper jack cheese, $4. Fluffy and light scrambled eggs from a local farm topped with pepper jack was a little too “challenging” for me in the morning, and I think cheddar might be a better choice for me next time. I chuckled when my plate came with a French laguiole knife, this might be the only egg mcmuffin cut with a pedigreed implement.

When business picks up, more hot items for a breakfast menu are planned. For now, The Coffee Shop is a bright spot in this part of the west county for a good cuppa and some morning cheer.
